On Sunday January 12, Rob Laffer, owner of McLaren Vale Native Nursery held a community event to plant seeds to help fire damaged areas. The local community came together, soil was donated by Peats Soils of Willunga, the local Lions & Rotary clubs held a BBQ and the seeds and pots were provided by NSW Fertilizer and Rob Laffer.
A group of local children helped plant seeds and wanted to reach a 10,000 seed goal. With the amount of people arriving and volunteers to water, they managed to plant in between 30,000-35,000 seeds.
With such an overwhelming turnout, McLaren Vale Lodge resident Brian Hearn (also a Lions Club volunteer) directed traffic as it was bumper to bumper with crowds of volunteers offering to help.
The Residents and Social Club committee at McLaren Vale Lodge also held a fundraiser for Kangaroo Island. Raising $2,500, the residents are donating this to the Mayor to distribute to those most in need.
It’s so heart-warming to see the community come together to help each other out, the event was a huge success, thank everyone involved.
